It was an honor of a lifetime to be invited to participate in the Closing Bell Ceremony on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange on July 1,2024.  After the official end of trading for the NYSE of the day, we were invited to a networking reception and dinner in the Grand Ballroom within the NYSE building.  I felt like a child in awe of everything larger than my life, around me.

The historical significance of the largest stock market in the world is awe-inspiring in and of itself.  The NYSE as an organization also honors with great display, the people and companies who have made our economy great, and are listed on the NYSE.

Outside of the ballroom are glass showcases enclosing numerous products and models from companies that transformed their industries, like the Polo shirt by Ralph Lauren (RL), canned tomato soup from Campbell Soup Company (CPB ) , Fintech innovation by Fiserv (FI), antique looking boxes of Arm and Hammer Baking Soda by the Church & Dwight Company (CHD), a shiny red model of a Case IH (International Harvester) Steiger 715 Quadtrac Tractor by CNH Industrial (CNHI), an F12 Berlinetta by Ferrari (RACE), and a blue Wilson basketball by Amer Sports (AS), and Tide Laundry Detergent by Proctor and Gamble (PG)to name a few.  There is also a wall honoring CEOs recognized as innovators and industry disrupters.

As I looked from glass case to glass case and admired the NYSE banners on the wall that read “If you build it happens here”, I couldn’t help but think of the many pioneers in industry who started out with a vision, and how their courage to take that vision to fruition has created products that have transformed our lives for generations.  I will forever have a new appreciation for the ticker symbols of the companies of the NYSE in addition to the opportunities we have for building investment portfolios.  Behind the tickers are teams of people who have made the companies that have shaped our economy and changed our lives.  Thank you, NYSE for honoring those people and their companies.
